BMW Ladies Championship 2023, held in the metropolitan area for the first time ever
BMW Korea (CEO Han Sang-yoon) signed a business agreement with Seowon Valley CC and selected the venue for the BMW Ladies Championship 2023, the only LPGA tournament in Korea.
The agreement ceremony, which was held on the 27th at the BMW Korea headquarters building in Jung-gu, Seoul, was attended by Yangye Joo, head of BMW Korea brand customer division, and Lee Seok-ho, CEO of Seowon Valley CC, and officials from both companies attended. Seowon Hills of Seowon Valley Country Club, located in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, has the nation’s best facility scale and facilities, including a 7,367-yard battlefield (based on 18 holes) capable of hosting international competitions, the longest single hole in Korea at 640 yards, and a driving range with a distance of 300 yards. It has been selected as one of the top 10 luxury courses in Korea through the best course condition management. In particular, this year’s tournament is expected to be a box office hit as the BMW Ladies Championship is held in the metropolitan area for the first time since it was held on the LPGA tour. The 2022 tournament held in Wonju, Gangwon-do not only broke the record for the largest number of galleries from the first day, but also proved to be a world-class event by attracting 81,000 galleries (81,657), the level of major LPGA tour tournaments. A total of 78 players, including 68 top LPGA tour players and 8 specially invited players, will participate in this four-day, 72-hole stroke play tournament with a total prize money of $2.2 million ($330,000 prize money). In addition, various social events such as enhancing peace consciousness considering the geographical characteristics of Paju, green campaign in connection with the local community, declaration of zero-waste competition that minimizes paper use throughout the competition, eco-friendly vehicle exhibition and operation of protocols, donation event of BMW Korea Future Foundation, etc. The strategy is to continue the best ESG competition through contribution activities.
