‘Fantastic Bali’ resurrects Yoon Bum Garam: “I thought it was a sure thing”

‘Yoonbit’ Yoon Beom-garam is back in action.

Suwon FC defeated Suwon Samsung 2-1 in the 16th round of the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 at Suwon World Cup Stadium on 3 March at 6pm. With the win, Suwon FC (18 points) jumped to eighth place.

Suwon FC, who are strong in the ‘Suwon Derby’, won again. It was thanks to a first-half goal from Yoon Beom-garam and a second-half wedge from Oh In-pyo. Suwon Samsung fought back with a late Han Ho-gang goal, but ultimately fell short.

They found Yoon in the mix zone. He finished a cross from Jang Jae-woong with a neat volley that rattled the net. Suwon FC were able to break their losing streak thanks to Yoon’s first goal in a month. Yoon said he was happy with the way the team came together as a unit.

A. I thought a lot about rebounding from the bad mood. The players also felt a lot of pressure. Unlike our other matches, we played as a team today, and I think we need to continue to prepare well.

Q. How did the team feel before the match?

A. We were on a losing streak, so we had to get a result. During training this week, we had a little more freedom and a little more seriousness, and I think that paid off.

Q. Jang Jae-woong’s assist

A. I thought it was going to be a duck no matter who it was, and I thought the cross was going to go in at that time. We even made eye contact at the time. When I asked him, he said he saw me and put it up. It was a good cross and I was able to score well.

Q. How do you feel about the pressure of the Suwon derby?

A. Personally, I’m going to enjoy it. The fans are more intense in derbies. I think we can build on the result from last time and get a good atmosphere today.

Q. Your current physical condition

A. It’s not perfect yet. I think I’m only six to 70 per cent ready, so I made some small mistakes in the second half. I’ll continue to prepare and adapt and that will help me.

Q. Any advice from coach Kim Do-gyun?

A. He doesn’t say anything in particular, but I think it’s faith. When we have problems, we communicate through dialogue and solve them together. I think we need to maintain a good atmosphere in the future.

Q. Next game against Ulsan Hyundai

A. Ulsan is a team with a lot of ball possession, so I think they will give up a lot of possession. However, if we work as a team like we did today, we will definitely have chances like counterattacks. If we capitalise on our chances, we can have a good game. I played in Ulsan, but there are more open spaces than I thought. If we utilise those spaces well, I think we can have a good game.
