Kiwoom Heroes head coach Hong Won-ki is at odds with the KBO’s remaining game schedule.
The KBO finalized the schedule for the remaining games of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO regular season on Monday. If a game is canceled due to rain from Sept. 29 to Sept. 7, it will be scheduled as a reserve day of the previously announced schedule.
After the 13th game of the season against SSG Landers, which was scheduled to be held at SSG Landers Field in Incheon, was canceled due to rain, Hong met with reporters and was left scratching his head about the remaining regular season schedule. “When I looked at the remaining schedule, it was unreasonable. There is a reserve day afterwards, and they put a doubleheader with a 2 p.m. start after Koo Tae-yeo’s game against Changwon. It’s an unreasonable schedule.”
If there is no reserve day, games with the same bracket after September 12 will be scheduled as a doubleheader on the second day of the same bracket, and games without the same bracket after September 12 will be scheduled at a later date.
However, Kiwoom is returning to Gocheok after a three-game midweek series in Changwon from September 5-7, with a doubleheader against the Hanwha Eagles on the 9th. They will have to play four games in three days from the 8th to the 10th against Hanwha.
The puzzling part is that there is a reserve day in Gocheok right after. The KBO has given Gocheok the 11th, 13th, and 14th off days. It would have been easy to organize a doubleheader on the 9th instead.
After Hanwha’s trip to Gocheok, they have Monday off on the 11th, followed by a game against Doosan in Jamsil on the 12th. They then have 14 days off. There is no problem if Kiwoom and Hanwha are scheduled to play on the 13th, a high-level reserve day. The Saturday doubleheader could be difficult for both teams to perform at their best. It’s a physically demanding schedule.
With no chance of rain in the Gocheok Dome, it’s not like they’re going to be able to save any extra bases. After the game on Friday, September 8, if a game is canceled due to rain, it will be moved to a backup date on the priority schedule. However, this does not apply to the Gocheok game.
Kiwoom will arrive in Seoul at dawn after their trip to Changwon. They will have to prepare for two games in one day, starting on Friday evening and then Saturday afternoon. Hong is bound to be unhappy with the schedule for the remaining games.
The first game of the doubleheader will start at 15:00 on weekdays and 14:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, while the second game will start at 18:30 on weekdays and 17:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. If Game 1 is canceled or ends early, Game 2 will be held at the original scheduled time. However, if the first game ends after 18:00 on weekdays and 16:30 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, the second game will be played 30 minutes after the end of the first game.메이저사이트
“We have a reserve day,” Hong said, “and we’ve scheduled a doubleheader on that day. I think it’s a hard decision to understand,” Hong said.
