Unstoppable Ram, challenging the first record in 49 years
This year’s Masters champion and world number one, Yon Ram (Spain), jumped into the race to win the championship by writing the record for the lowest score in the tournament at the Mexico Open. If he succeeds in winning the come-from-behind match, it will be his 5th win on the PGA Tour this year alone.
In the 3rd round of the PGA Tour Mexico Open (total prize money: $7.7 million), which continued at Vidanta Vallarta (par 71) in Vallarta, Mexico on the 30th (Korean time), Ram scored 10 birdies and recorded 10 under par 61 strokes. He jumped 10 places with an interim total of 17 under par to tie for second place. He narrowed the gap with Tony Finau (USA), the sole leader of 19 under par, from 6 strokes to 2 strokes. 크크크벳
Most of the top rankers took a break this week in anticipation of the next $20 million prize pool, the Wells Fargo Championship. Ram and Finau (ranked 16th) are the only players in the top 20 in the world rankings among the Mexico Open players. Ram and Pinau won the championship and runner-up, respectively, in this competition last year, but they will compete for the championship for the second year in a row.
Ram hit an average of 335 yards of driving on the day and attacked the fairway with 76.9% accuracy. It was a day where nothing was impossible, ranking first overall with a green hit rate of 94.4% and also ranked first with 1.41 putts when hitting the green. In the 17th hole (par 3), he also put an 11m birdie putt. If Ram wins, he will set a record in 49 years since Johnny Miller (USA) in 1974 to win 5 seasons before May (local time).
Left-handed golfer Akshai Bhatia (USA), a rookie of Indian origin, is tied for second place with Ram, and Brandon Wu (USA), who tied for second place in this tournament last year, is fourth with 16 under par. Seong-Hyun Kim cut 3 strokes and climbed 9 steps to tie for 23rd at 7 under par.
